Experts in rare diseases met at our university on March 25. The conference inaugurated the MUW Center of Excellence for Rare and Undiagnosed Diseases. The creation of the center has opened up more opportunities for patients with rare diseases to be diagnosed faster and treated better. - Such an initiative is "to be or not to be" for them - said Stanisław Maćkowiak, president of the Polish Patients Federation and the Polish National Forum for Rare Diseases Therapy ORPHAN.
The event was held online on an interactive platform. All videos, information and chat records will be available until June 30 this year. Keep checking back.
In the exhibition halls of Ptak Warsaw Expo in Nadarzyn, near Warsaw, a Refugee Assistance Centre was established. Currently there are about 10 thousand people there. It is likely to be as many as 18,000 soon. There are four medical points onsite.
The intensive Polish language course for 25 people evacuated from Afghanistan, who have been staying in Poland for over half a year, has started. These are young people connected with medicine, including doctors, medical students and people who would like to study medicine in Poland.
More and more people are fleeing war-torn Ukraine every day. Many of them need medical care. Our students are involved in organizing medical assistance at Warsaw train stations. You can sign up for internal medicine consultations in Ukrainian at the Medical Center MUW. Additionally some of our dormitories can shelter foreign students who studied in Ukraine and are now returning to their home countries
It has many new helpful functions, making it more convenient to use. It also has a more modern look. The mWUM application can be downloaded for free via Google Play or the App Store for all Android and iOS devices.
Thanks to the cooperation of the Medical University of Warsaw, the NEUCA Group and the Humanosh Foundation, it was possible to organize an aid action, as a result of which essential medicines were delivered to Ukrainian hospitals.
It is estimated that in Poland nearly one million people suffer from glaucoma. Up to half of them may go undiagnosed. And the prognosis assumes a continued increase in the number of patients. That is why every year, during the World Glaucoma Week, ophthalmologists, including the specialists from the Department of Ophthalmology of the Medical University of Warsaw and the Independent Public Clinical Ophthalmology Hospital, join the "Polish Ophthalmologists Against Glaucoma" action. It allows to get a free glaucoma screening without a referral. Its goal is to increase the detection of glaucoma at an early stage and increase public awareness of the disease itself. The campaign will last until 12 March.
A meeting with our Ukrainian students was held at our university. They talked about their current situation and the most urgent needs. MUW is also involved in helping the refugees from Ukraine. The Sława and Izek Wołosiański Foundation- Humanosh organizes a collection of the most needed items.
