The procedure consisted in inserting two needles through the skin into a tumor in the lung. The tips of the needles were cooled to -120oC. After several cycles of freezing and thawing, the tumor was destroyed. Everything went smoothly. Cryoablation was performed this day and the patient will be scheduled for discharge home the next day.
The exam session is approaching fast. There is the extremely important examination in anatomy, among others, to be passed. After all, perfect knowledge of the human body is essential in the medical professions. Crowds of first-year students refreshed their knowledge on the subject yesterday, until late at night, at the Museum of the History of Medicine of the Medical University of Warsaw. They used, among other things, a set of accurate and advanced anatomical models and an interactive phantom mapping the six human anatomical systems. This is the first lesson from the “Anatomic Warm-up” series.
August Ferdynand Wolff was one of the founders of the Medical Academy which gave rise to the teaching of medicine in Warsaw, as well as the first president of the Warsaw Medical Society. Wreaths and candles are laid every year, just before the annual festival of the Society, under the plaque commemorating this outstanding figure located in the Jazdów district of Warsaw. Prof. Paweł Włodarski, Vice-Rector for Internationalization, Promotion and Development of the Medical University of Warsaw, paid tribute to Wolff on behalf of the academic community of the Medical University of Warsaw.
Nine teams from all over Poland competed in the nationwide medical simulation competition “SimChallenge 2022”. The winners were a team from the Medical College of the Jagiellonian University. The representation of our University, members of the Students’ Circle for Research in Medical Simulations, took second place on the podium. As the hosts of the event, the Medical Simulation Center of the Medical University of Warsaw emphasize, the most important in the competition were commitment, healthy rivalry and good fun.

The Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences and the Head of the Department of Emergency Medical Services, Prof. Robert Gałązkowski, visited the Ministry of Health of Ukraine. He discussed with the Deputy Minister, Iryna Mykychak, various needs of the Ukrainian health care system in wartime conditions. It has been confirmed that a training program for doctors and paramedics is the most urgent requirement.
The awards are given to those who share personal success for the common good and national prestige. Our scientist was nominated in the science category. The diploma was presented by Agata Kornhauser-Duda, the wife of the President of the Republic of Poland.
The awards were given to: Paweł Łęgosz, MD, PhD, Jerzy Tyszkiewicz, MD, PhD and Dariusz Kawecki, MD, PhD. They were recognized for their contributions to public health. The Crosses of Merit were handed over by Deputy Mazovian Province Governor Artur Standowicz during a ceremony which took place on June 10 at the Mazovian Voivodeship Office. A total of 15 medals were awarded.
The helicopter delivered a liver, which our transplantologists transplanted into a 60-year-old woman. It was a life-saving operation. The patient is feeling well after the procedure.
Prof. Robert Gałązkowski, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences, Director of the Polish Medical Air Rescue, and Dr. Marcin Podgórski from the Department of Emergency Medical Services, Director of the Eastern Region of the Polish Medical Air Rescue, received the Bene Merito honorary badges from the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Zbigniew Rau.
It consists of six modern and fully air-conditioned operating rooms. Its equipment will allow to perform all types of traumatological and orthopedic procedures in the most optimal and aseptic conditions. In addition, the cameras installed in the operating rooms will enable online video transmission for teaching and scientific purposes. The operating block also includes a recovery room for patients. On Friday, June 3, the new rooms were officially opened.
