The “COVID Genomics” project, led by students Grzegorz Preibisch, Faculty of Medicine, MUW and Faculty of Mathematics, Informatics and Mechanics, UW, Michał Borkowski and, Piotr Grzegorczyk, Faculty of Mathematics, Informatics and Mechanics, UW, was identified by the European Commission and the EUvsVirus Hackathon jury of experts as amongst the best solutions to support the European and global fight against the coronavirus outbreak.
Dr. Agnieszka Kapłon-Cieślicka, MD, PhD, from the 1st Chair and Department of Cardiology at the Medical University of Warsaw (MUW) has been selected for the two-year training program for young cardiologists from member countries of the European Society of Cardiology (ESC). The program is in the form of an educational grant supported by Servier pharmaceutical company.
The Medical University of Warsaw (WUM) has allocated PLN 48,000 for student mini-grant applications (up to PLN 8,000 each). Student mini-grants are awarded to foster academic excellence and collaboration, and maximize opportunities for students of the English Division. Grants are open to all subject areas within medicine but excluding dental and pharmaceutical sciences. Applicants must be actively engaged in the proposed project and collaboration between students is strongly encouraged.

In the Department of General, Gastroenterology and Oncologic Surgery of the UCC MUW a very unusual and rare surgery of simultaneous excision of the head of the pancreas and a fragment of the liver was performed in a patient who underwent hepatic transplantation in the past.
A team of scientists from the Department of the Prevention of Environmental Hazards and Allergology headed by Dr. Mariusz Gujski will study the incidence rate of SARS-CoV-2 infections amongst police officers working in the Mazovian Voivoidship. The proposed study received the support of the Polish Medical Research Agency (ABM) and will be funded through the Agency’s Fight Against COVID-19 fast support fund.
The TeleCheck-AF remote screening Project was initiated by Dr. Dominik Linz, from the Department of Cardiology at Maastricht University Medical Centre, together with Nikki Pluymaekers, also from Maastricht University Medical Centre, and Jeroen Hendriks, from Flinders University in Adelaide. The MUW UCC 1st Chair and Department of Cardiology, headed by Prof. Grzegorz Opolski, is the first clinic in Poland to become a TeleCheck-AF center.
