The first ablation procedures of cardiac arrhythmias using a new generation of cooled catheters in Poland were performed on January 20-21, at the 1st Chair and Department of Cardiology at the Central Clinical Hospital of UCC MUW.
Medical University of Warsaw doctoral student, Sandra Górska, from the Chair and Department of Drug Technology and Pharmaceutical Biotechnology participated in the 2019 IIER 767th International Conference on Natural Science and Environment (ICNSE) which took place from 9-10 December, 2019 in Athens, Greece.
On Friday, January 17, the English Division officially launched its “MUWing Science” mentorship program, which gives students enrolled in the 6-year English Division Medical Program an opportunity to develop their skills and scientific interests with the help of a mentor. This is the first ever mentorship program at Medical University of Warsaw. The program initiator is Prof. Marek Postuła - Dean of the English Division at the Faculty of Medicine.
From January 14-17, 2020, MUW students were able to attend lectures on clinical microbiology delivered by Prof. Giovanni Gherardi from the University of Campus Bio-Medico in Rome thanks to the „MUW Academy of Innovative Didactics” POWER Grant Program. Students could listen to all or any of Prof. Gherardi's four different lectures on the topic of "Challenges in Clinical Microbiology."
Jarosław Biliński, PhD, from MUW’s UCC Department of Hematology, Oncology and Internal Diseases, has been selected for the 2020 European Society for Blood and Marrow Transplantation (EBMT) Young Ambassadors Programme.
On January 15, Health Minister Łukasz Szumowski presented awards to six academics from Medical University of Warsaw to honor their outstanding achievements.
For the first time in the history of Medical University Warsaw, international students enrolled in the 6-year medical program of the Faculty of Medicine English Division celebrated Christmas in the homes of the University’s academic community. Staff were invited to host an international student who was spending Christmas in Warsaw. The response was wonderful! The Medical University of Warsaw’s teachers showed what big hearts they have.
Cardiologists Prof. Marcin Grabowski and Marcin Michalak, PhD from the 1st Chair and Department of Cardiology of the UCC MUW, headed by Prof. Grzegorz Opolski, were the first in Poland and among the first in the world to successfully implant a second electrode-free pacemaker in the same patient. The procedure was conducted on a 75-year-old patient diagnosed with a bradycardia type arrhythmia whose pacemaker batteries died in less than three years. The second pacemaker that was implanted is a micra-type device.
