We encourage you to attend the lecture, which will be given by Professor Peter Sicinski, pathologist and molecular biologist from Harvard Medical School (Department of Cancer Biology, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute) on May 19 at 4 pm. The meeting, conducted in English, will focus on the latest achievements in the development of new anti-cancer treatments.

In this year's CWUR - The Center for World University Rankings, Medical University of Warsaw was ranked the highest among domestic medical universities. With an overall score of 70.6, MUW took 943rd place in the general classification and ranked 9th among 40 Polish universities.

On May 10, the Minister of Health appointed the National Council for Cardiology - a consultative and advisory body with the following tasks: participation in the development of the draft of the National Program of Cardiovascular Diseases and monitoring its implementation, as well as improving the coordination and efficiency of the cardiac care. The Council was joined by Professor Piotr Pruszczyk - Vice-Rector for Science and Technology Transfer of our University, Head of the Department of Internal Medicine and Cardiology with the Center for Management of Venous Thromboembolic Disease MUW.

A disease characterized by immunodeficiency with autoinflammation and dysmorphy was described by the researchers from the Department of Medical Genetics led by Prof. Rafał Płoski in collaboration with a team led by Prof. Dominika Nowis. The cause of the young patient with genetically determined disease turned out to be a variant of the IL6ST gene, which encodes a receptor for cytokines.
First in Poland implantation of the state-of-the-art tool for arrhythmia detection in a child
On April 29th this year, in the Department of Pediatric Cardiology and General Pediatrics at UCC MUW, a new generation BIOTRONIK BioMonitor IIIm loop arrhythmia recorder was implanted. The procedure was performed by Piotr Wieniawski, MD, PhD. The device was implanted in a 14-year-old boy with genetically determined heart disease and loss of consciousness of unclear etiology.

Arkadiusz Kołodziej, a fifth year student of medicine, is among the winners of the BioLAB Program organized by the Polish-U.S. Fulbright Commission.

McDonald House
On Thursday, May 6, 2021, there was a symbolic, official opening of the second Ronald McDonald House in Poland, which was built next to the Children's Clinical Hospital of the University Clinical Center of the Medical University of Warsaw. The building, located at Prince Trojden Street 2B on the Banacha Campus of MUW, is the first of this kind in the world to be connected with a nursery area, called WUMik.
100th anniversary of awarding Józef Piłsudski, the Chief of State, the title of Doctor Honoris Causa of the Faculty of Medicine UW
On May 2, 1921, upon the motion of the Council of the Faculty of Medicine UW, Marshal Józef Piłsudski was awarded an honorary doctorate. The ceremony took place in the Auditorium Maximum of the Kazimierzowski Palace of the University of Warsaw. Thus, Józef Piłsudski became the first honorary doctorate holder in the 200-year history of our University.
MAGNA CHARTA OBSERVATORY
On 28 April, His Magnificence Rector – Professor Zbigniew Gaciong signed the declaration of Magna Charta Universitatum and thus the Medical University of Warsaw joined the prestigious Association MAGNA CHARTA OBSERVATORY, with the seat in Bologna, established in the year 1988.

Complex, multi-organ surgery performed by specialists from UCC MUW
On April 7, physicians from the Department of General, Gastroenterology and Oncology Surgery performed a complex surgery on a patient hospitalized for liver cancer and coexisting coronary artery disease.
