The innovative helmet for the treatment of acute respiratory failure in the course of COVID-19, developed by the researchers from the Medical University of Warsaw and the engineers from the Warsaw University of Technology and the Military University of Technology, has just received the approval of the President of the URPL for clinical use.

The team from the Department of General, Transplant and Liver Surgery of the CCH UCC MUW, headed by Prof. Krzysztof Zieniewicz, performed the first in Poland laparoscopic, right-sided hemihepatectomy in a patient with cirrhosis.

In the 1st Chair and Department of Cardiology of the University Clinical Center of the Medical University of Warsaw (Head: Prof. Grzegorz Opolski), the team from the Department of Electrocardiology performed an implantation of the newest electrodeless MICRA™ AV pacemaker. This was the first such procedure performed in Mazovia. Previous procedures were recently performed in Poznan, Zabrze and Wroclaw.

We are pleased to inform that in this year's specialization exam in internal medicine two resident doctors from the Department of Internal Medicine and Cardiology with the Center for Management of Venous Thromboembolic Disease IJTH UCC MUW: Katarzyna Wolder, MD, and Mateusz Jermakow, MD, - obtained, ex aequo, the best result in Poland - congratulations!

The total knee replacement surgery with the anatomical prosthesis PERSONA PS with the use of the dynamic balancer FUZION Zimmer Biomet took place for the first time in Poland, in the Department of Orthopaedics and Rehabilitation of the Faculty of Medicine.

Announcement No. 5/2021 of the Vice Rector for Student Affairs and Education, MUW, of March 26, 2021, regarding the mode of didactic classes, informing that in the current epidemic situation only practical skills classes, including exercises and work placement, will be carried out in the contact form, while all other didactic classes are to be held remotely.  

On March 16, 2021, in the Department of Orthopaedics and Endoprosthetics of the Department of Orthopaedics and Traumatology of the Locomotor System of the Medical University of Warsaw, headed by Paweł Łęgosz, MD, PhD, the first in Poland non-commercial primary knee joint replacement surgery using a personalized custom-made implant was performed.

The procedure involving percutaneous crushing and removal of intrahepatic deposits with the use of ultramodern SpyGlass Discover cholangioscope was performed for the first time in Poland in the Endoscopic Laboratory of the Department of General, Transplant and Liver Surgery at UCC MUW, headed by professor Krzysztof Zieniewicz.
The procedure was performed by the endoscopists - Jan Pertkiewicz, MD, PhD, and Slawomir Koziel, MD, in cooperation with the anesthesiology and nursing teams and representatives of the Boston Scientific company - the cholangioscope manufacturer.
