In the Endoscopic Laboratory of the Department of Gastroenterology and Internal Medicine of the Central Clinical Hospital UCC MUW an innovative procedure of removing a prosthesis from the pancreatic duct with the use of SpyGlass Discover cholangioscope was performed.

On April 12, 2021, in the Department of Orthopaedics and Rehabilitation of the Faculty of Medicine MUW, headed by Artur Stolarczyk, MD, PhD, in Międzylesie Specialist Hospital in Warsaw, the surgery involving the implantation of a double partial custom-made endoprosthesis - Episurf, prepared specifically for local cartilage or cartilage-bone defects within the knee joint, was performed for the first time in Poland.

April 19, 2021 marked the beginning of the Mental Health Awareness Days - a seven-day series of meetings, discussions, lectures and workshops devoted to the mental well-being. The event is organized by the English-speaking Psychological Student Scientific Club PSYCHE, the MUW University Counseling Services and the Department of Psychology and Medical Communication MUW.

On April 17, the Open Day was held at our University for the university’s prospective students. The event was held online. We started at 10 a.m. with the official opening and the welcoming of the participants by HM Rector, prof. Zbigniew Gaciong.

We are pleased to announce that Urszula Piotrowska, PhD, PharmD, from the Department of Analytical Chemistry and Biomaterials, received a special award in the 6th edition of the Leader of Pharmaceutical Sciences Competition for the best doctoral dissertation in pharmacy.

The team from the Department of Cardiac and General Pediatric Surgery UCC MUW, headed by prof. dr Maciej Karolczak, performed the surgery to implant the smallest mechanical heart valve in a 2-month-old child.

On Saturday and Sunday, 10 and 11 April 2021, the Arena Grand Prix Polish Cup competition took place at the swimming pool of the Sports and Rehabilitation Centre of the Medical University of Warsaw.

The innovative helmet for the treatment of acute respiratory failure in the course of COVID-19, developed by the researchers from the Medical University of Warsaw and the engineers from the Warsaw University of Technology and the Military University of Technology, has just received the approval of the President of the URPL for clinical use.

The team from the Department of General, Transplant and Liver Surgery of the CCH UCC MUW, headed by Prof. Krzysztof Zieniewicz, performed the first in Poland laparoscopic, right-sided hemihepatectomy in a patient with cirrhosis.

In the 1st Chair and Department of Cardiology of the University Clinical Center of the Medical University of Warsaw (Head: Prof. Grzegorz Opolski), the team from the Department of Electrocardiology performed an implantation of the newest electrodeless MICRA™ AV pacemaker. This was the first such procedure performed in Mazovia. Previous procedures were recently performed in Poznan, Zabrze and Wroclaw.
