Experts from the Department of Cardiac Surgery and the Department of Pediatric Cardiology and General Pediatrics at University Clinical Center WUM, carried out the first procedure in Poland involving implantation of last generation Amvia Sky biventricular pacemaker in a child. The device offers more effective diagnostics, treatment, and improvement of the living standard. The young patient is already feeling well and has been released from hospital.
Three groups of our students, members of the Study Group at the First Cardiology Department and Clinic, UCK University Clinical Center, WUM Medical University of Warsaw, faced a serious competitive challenge. Goal: to make an approx. 3-minute video to illustrate the area of interest of the campaign entitled “Your Heart’s Voice”, an initiative to improve the health competence in the general population and to raise awareness of heart failure. Boehringer Ingelheim is the campaign partner; this April, they signed a letter of intent with WUM on the organization of this contest. The awards ceremony took place on Tuesday, September 26.
The initiative supports national transplantation and popularizes the idea of conscious organ donation. The relay teams were made up of doctors, transplant coordinators, actors, athletes as well as musicians, students from Warsaw schools and, above all, transplant recipients. Among them could not miss specialists from our university.
This year, 165 people received doctoral degrees at our university. This is over 40 more than the year before. The number of postdoctoral dissertations has also increased. This year there were 39 of them.
In 2016, our university received the distinction of HR Excellence in Research. Such a prestigious title obliges. It is awarded by the European Commission to those institutions that implement The Human Resources Strategy for Researchers (HRS4R) i.e. the Strategy for enhancing the attractiveness of working conditions and career development of researchers. How this strategy is implemented at MUW was checked by representatives of the European institutions.
The Instructors from the Polish Medical Air Rescue and the Department of Emergency Medicine MUW are training Ukrainian female doctors, paramedics and nurses. The course, held in Poland, is being attended by 90 women. The training was held under the patronage of Agata Kornhauser-Duda.

The event was attended by all willing first-year students. Various workshops, trainings, courses and integration games were prepared for them. There was also an official part, i.e. meetings of new students with vice rectors and deans, who came to Chłapowo for a day.
Diplomas were received by 199 graduates in the four fields of study at the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry. They are graduates of Audiophonology with Auditory Prosthetics, Radiation Therapy, Physiotherapy, and General and Clinical Speech and Language Therapy.
On July 11, a successful lung transplant was done by expert surgeons at the Cardiothoracic Surgery and Transplantology Clinic at the UCK University Clinical Center, WUM Medical University of Warsaw. This is the next step in the development of the strategy to build a powerful transplantation center at our clinical faculty. Experts talked about the details of the surgery and promoted organ and tissue transplantation in general at a press conference. It was also an opportunity to talk to a transplant patient who is now getting ready to go home.
