Focus on MUW - 2022
We have signed a cooperation agreement with one of the oldest and most important universities in Peru - Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos (UNMSM). The document was signed by Prof. Pawel Włodarski - Vice Rector for International Relations, Development and Promotion MUW, and Dr. Jeri Ramón Ruffner - Rector of UNSMSM.
Prof. Stefan Tyski, PhD was elected President of the Polish Microbiological Society (Polskie Towarzystwo Mikrobiologów), and Agnieszka E. Laudy, PhD is going to be the secretary of the General Board. They are both employed at the Department of Pharmaceutical Microbiology of the MUW.
Endolymphatic hydrops is believed to cause Meniere’s disease – a rare condition of the inner ear. Due to the co-financing awarded by the National Science Centre, the specialists from the Department of Otolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery of the UCC Medical University of Warsaw are going to attempt to identify the miRNA profile in the perilymph. The author and the principal investigator are Dr Agnieszka Jasińska-Nowacka.
This original prize was awarded to Marcin Jasiński, Martyna Maciejewska, Anna Brodziak, Michał Górka, Kamila Skwierawska, Wiesław Jędrzejczak, Agnieszka Tomaszewska, Grzegorz Basak and Emilian Snarski. Their research has proven that after marrow transplants, patients suffer from less damaging side effects when they are given...ice cream.
Prof. Kazimierz Niemczyk and Dr. Robert Bartoszewicz from the Department of Otorhinolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery UCC MUW have performed four middle ear reconstruction surgeries on soldiers wounded in combat in Ukraine. The procedures were performed on September 13 at the department of otorhinolaryngology in Lviv.
The Presidium of the Polish Accreditation Commission has issued a positive program evaluation for the field of dietetics conducted at our university at the level of first- and second-cycle studies with a practical profile. The next evaluation is scheduled for the 2027/2028 academic year.
After a hiatus due to the coronavirus pandemic, within the walls of our university for the eighth time, the surgical doctors took part in lectures and exercises to improve their skills in laparoscopic suturing. The specialists from the Chair and Department of General, Gastrointestinal and Oncologic Surgery UCC MUW provided the training. The special guest at the event was Prof. Thomas Carus, a renowned European surgeon and authority on minimally invasive surgery.
The classes for physician educators from the Children's Clinical Hospital UCC MUW were held as part of the "Patient-Friendly Communication" course. They practiced communication techniques with children and their parents based on the Positive Discipline method. It emphasizes a kind and firm approach to the child in every situation in life. The training is organized by the Medical University of Warsaw together with the K.I.D.S. Foundation as well as Positive Discipline experts.
The funding from the Ministry of Education and Science will be used to improve the training process in anatomy and clinical anatomy conducted at the Department of Human Anatomy of the Faculty of Health Sciences. The project manager is an assistant professor from the Department - Małgorzata Witkowska-Zimny, MD, PhD.
The Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU), referred to as the Shanghai List, includes the top 1,000 universities from around the globe. Only 11 Polish ones are included in this year's list, and only two of them have a medical profile. One of them is the Medical University of Warsaw.
