Rector Prof. Zbigniew Gaciong met with Minister Jan Grabec - Member of the Council of Ministers, Head of the Chancellery of the Prime Minister. The topic of the conversation, which took place on Thursday, March 14, 2024, was the challenges of operating medical universities, with particular attention to the problems of child and adolescent psychiatry.

In the finals, 10 pharmacy and 9 medical analytics students presented their works. The Preclinical Testing and Technology Center (CePT) is the largest integrated biomedical and biotechnology research center, which has been involved in interdisciplinary research of lifestyle diseases for years. During the conference that took place on March 8 at our University building, discussion was focused on the Center’s key achievements in the field of biomedicine and its contemplated operating directions for the future. The event was also a networking opportunity.

With the advancement of medicine, patients with severe cardiac failure who need a heart transplant now have a great opportunity: a long-term assist device, i.e. a special pump that saves and prolongs people’s lives.

What are cardiomyopathies? It is a group of disorders which lead to heart muscle impairments. They have multiple causes and are often genetically determined. As emphasized by experts from the 1st Department and Clinic of Cardiology of WUM Medical University of Warsaw, hosts of the International Congress of Cardiomyopathies, these are still not receiving enough attention. This is a mistake, considering that cardiomyopathies are being diagnosed in more and more patients, while giving the right care to patients tends to be a very demanding task.

This exceptional group included Prof. Anna Kostera-Pruszczyk, Head of the Chair and Department of Neurology, Justyna Mieszalska, CEO of the Medical Center, and Magdalena Skarżyńska, MD, PhD, from the Department of Pharmacotherapy and Pharmaceutical Care. Woman in the Health Market 2024 awards were given to them for their work and activities that contribute to the development of medicine and health care in Poland.

This is a prestigious plebiscite of "Puls Medycyny", covering one hundred of the most influential people in Polish medicine and one hundred in the Polish health care system. Yesterday we learned the results of the 2023 edition.

The leading topic of this year’s edition was mental health. During the two-day symposium 22 experts discussed the most important issues related to the protection and strengthening of mental health, as well as the use of artificial intelligence in this area. The event was organized by the Public Health Department of the Medical University of Warsaw and the Students’ Public Health Studies Club operating within the organization.

The Medical Research Agency has finalized a competition for the implementation of epidemiological research on multi-morbidity. Two projects of the Medical University of Warsaw are among the 10 ones that have qualified for co-financing. One concerns the significance of allergic inflammatory processes on the occurrence of multi-morbidities, the other – multi-morbidities among premature newborns.

Despite the term, these diseases are not that rare. They affect approximately 2.5 million people in Poland and approximately 350 million in the world. Specialists say that no less than one in four patients, and perhaps as many as 40% of patients, suffer from a rare disease. Doctors, patients and their organizations and families talked about them during a conference organized by the Center of Excellence for Rare and Undiagnosed Diseases of the Medical University of Warsaw in cooperation with the “We Have Hit the Wall” Foundation. The Deputy Minister of Health, prof. Urszula Demkow, accepted invitation to the event from the Rector, prof. Zbigniew Gaciong.
