Focus on MUW - 2023
The National Research Center, in the Opus 25 procedure, is going to fund the research project by Magdalena Weronika Paplińska-Goryca, PhD, from the Clinical Department of Internal Medicine, Pneumonology and Allergology. The study concerns air pollution-related lung damage occurrence and regeneration mechanisms.
Current and future challenges were debated by the participants of the conference organized on November 16 and 17 in Czeladź. The event was co-organized by the Department of Emergency Medical Sciences MUW, headed by Professor Robert Galązkowski.
The game will be built on five steps of evidence-based practice, as an innovative tool to support the student training process. The project will be executed with the Erasmus+ funding received by a consortium of European universities of which WUM is a member.
Experts from the First Department and Clinic of Cardiology at WUM University Clinical Center (UCK WUM) have implanted an extravascular implantable cardioverter defibrillator (EV-ICD). In this innovative solution, the unit can be implanted bypassing the veins and the heart, thus minimizing the risk of complications. The procedure was carried out in a 73 years old male heart failure patient. The patient is feeling well.
On November 14, the World Diabetes Day, our University students and staff had the opportunity to have their body composition analyzed and their blood sugar level measured, and to talk about preventing diabetes and about the habits you need to establish if you are already affected by the disease. The campaign was conducted by members of the following student groups: for Human Nutrition, Clinical Nutrition, as well as Start from the Basics, under the supervision of the WUM Department of Human Nutrition staff.
Like every year, the Rector, Dean authorities and representatives of WUM Medical University of Warsaw administration laid wreaths at a stone obelisk commemorating the 200th anniversary of teaching medicine in Warsaw.
The National Research Center, within the scope of the MINIATURA 7 procedure, funded the research of Agnieszka Kołodzińska, PhD hab., on cardiac fibrosis; Magdalena Majdan, PhD, on food additives; and Dagmara Otto-Ślusarczyk, PhD, on cancer cell-cell interactions.
Varsoviada is a huge sports event dedicated to first year students of the Warsaw universities. However, it is not for students only. A regular part of the competition and the focal point of the entire event is the so-called Rectors Triathlon, a contest for representatives of university authorities. This year, WUM Medical University of Warsaw was represented by the Rector himself - professor Zbigniew Gaciong.
It's not an easy part of medicine, which only emerged as an independent specialty in the world in the 1970s. But it is extremely important for the good future of each of us. Dr. Beata Borek-Dzięcioł from the Department of Neonatology and Rare Diseases UCC MUW argued this during a lecture as part of the Patronage Program. The lecture took place in the auditorium of the Teaching Center MUW. It was attended by students from the five high schools included in the program.
On Tuesday, October 31, professor Zbigniew Gaciong, Rector of WUM, and Łukasz Jankowski, chairman of the Supreme Medical Chamber (NIL), signed an agreement on the organization of postgraduate training for doctors and dentists. Our school will be responsible for the development of the training program and the choice of teaching staff, whereas the NIL Main Research, Innovation and Training Center will take care of organizational matters, including registration and integrated communication with course participants.
